The battle of the Exfoliators.

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The other night while getting ready to start my skin care routine, my eye came across these two exfoliators (Kate Somerville Exfolikate and Lancer The method Polish). It got me thinking which one of these is the better exfoliator? So, I put them to the test. I used a pea size of both on each half of my face. I started exfoliating my problems away (if only it was that simple).

What does exfoliating exactly do to our skin? It basically takes off dead skin and rejuvenates the skin this is why you feel the skin smoother afterwards. Also, you’re skincare products will sink in and work better with a freshly new skin. My tip after exfoliating is, try not to use acids just to be on the safe side. I prefer to use serums or oils after I Exfoliate. Exfoliating is recommended once or twice a week, it depends on you’re skin type (only you know you’re skin tolerance). I prefer once a week because I already use products that have glycolic + lactic acid which provide exfoliating properties to my skin.

When exfoliating always remember to do circular motion and never press hard on you’re skin while exfoliating. You’re face will get red this is a normal reaction. The redness will go down after a while. I like to exfoliate at night and do not recommend in the daytime (I’ve heard some do this) but I feel this can sensitize you’re skin to the sun and may cause damage to the skin.

Lancer: Texture was grainy slightly rough (like sand).

Exfolikate: Texture was a bit smoother with a slight creamy texture and the grains felt less rough. This is a 2 in 1, an exfoliator and 2 minute leave on mask. So, after you exfoliate leave it on for 2 min afterwards wash off.

My skin felt smooth on both sides of my face but the Lancer side felt smoother. I feel both are good exfoliators it all depends on preference and skin type. I wouldn’t recommend the Lancer to someone with sensitive skin (Lancer also have an exfoliator for belmish and sensitive skin the one I used is the original exfoliator). The Exfolikate is a bit gentler on a sensitive skin. Personally I like both but would lean towards Lancer because my skin feels really soft and smooth afterwards.

Now, both these products are not full size. The Exfoikate came in a set so, it’s .5 oz/15mL product. The Lancer also came in a set. The full size products are expensive the Lancer $75 for 4.2 oz/125mL and the Kate Somerville 2oz/60mL sells for $85. So, if you’re wanting to test them out get them in a set a .5 oz/15m exfoliator will last you a good couple of months. Because I shop at Sephora I would recommend to always keep a look out for skincare sets they release. This way you can try out products to see if you like and willing to pay the full price.
